Hi all,
I have an old oscilloscope which still works fine the only problem is the line doesnt go horizontal, even twisting the adjuster it comes close but it just isnt enough. Does anyone know what caused this and more importantly how to fix it.
Thanks

With my knowledge of CRT screens it is more likely than not a capacitor issue, most likely the one tied to the adjuster control

If you are comfortable with it, open it up and look for any bulging/blown capacitors, and try to find the ones near the adjuster knob and measure the resistor there as well.

Take some pictures too

What make/model is it?

Try rotating the oscilloscope (looking down on it from above, rotate it clockwise or anticlockwise slowly) and seeing whether the trace can be made horizontal. The trace is affected by the Earth's magnetic field. You might have to have the scope facing in a different direction.

You can also try degaussing everything metal, including inside the scope, using a picture tube degausser (a tape head demagnetizer might work but may not be powerful enough).
