Panasonic HDTV

Hi,
I bought a Panasonic HDTV monitor (27") recently. I noticed a problem
with the lower left corner of the TV where it shows a purple tinge and
any scrolling text seems to go up when it reaches there (like as if
there was a bump).
Since it was only a week since i bought it, i thought of returning it
back to Circuit City and getting a new one. While trying to get it
back, my friend unfortunately dropped it on the screen. Circuit City
will not take it back and i really don't know what to do.
On viewing it, there seems to be a black patch on the left of the
screen and a line on the right. Do you reckon there is substantial
damage ? Is this fixable by asking one of the service techs to come in
and fix it or will i get ripped off ?
Please do advise...

Thanks...
Cherian

What you started with was probably due to a magnetic field somewhere
close by the tv set. Odds are very high that the picture tube was
damaged if it was dropped on its face, but you need to have it looked
at to determine the cause and get an estimate.

May be time to buy another 27" hdtv.

You should call Panasonic directly, and tell them about the situation. If
the set was dropped a little, there is a good chance that there has been
other damage.

With the type of set you have, even in the future you would be best off to
call Panasonic for service, or their authorized service rep.

The original problem may have been that the mask in the tube became a little
magnetized in the corner. Or, the purity alignment is out, or there is a
defect in the mask.

When you were taking the set back, you didn't put it back in to the original
box that it came with???

Since it is "Physical Damage" the Original Manufacturer's Warrenty may not
cover the repairs unless Panasonic issues you a waver. At this point the CRT
is probably damaged as well as probable other items within the set,
inclusive of the pc boards. Improper handling and packaging tend to be the
cause of a lot of damage while in transport, both by the customer and even
by "professional" shipping companies. As posted earlier, contact Panasonic
directly, in the back of the Owner's Manual is the toll free number to their
customer relations. Tell them exactly what has transpired and hopefuly they
will offer you a waver for the parts and labour needed to make the set
function correctly. The only other option is to drop the $$ for anothere new
set, and have it delivered. Circuit City is quite fair in ther procedures,
you may even have a chance calling their customer relations number and
explaining what has transpired. Normally they are not in the business to
give away free merchandise as a result of customer damages but who knows.
The old saying "nothing ventured is nothing gained". Good Luck!
