Hi,

I have a 8 year old Panasonic CT31SF10R. It wasworking great until 4
weeks ago. About twice a week, the picture goes black and compresses
down to a horizontal line. I still have sound. The TV is on for over 50
hours a week, so we get a lot of use at of it. Until today, I simple
turned it off, waited a few seconds and the problem goes away. Today I
tried this several times with not success. I left the TV off for several
minutes and then was able to turn it on.

Any advice on what the problem and is it worth fixing? As I said the
picture and sound are still as good as the 1st day I bought it.

Thanks for any advice.

The vertical deflection is crapping out. Probably a bad
solder joint on the circuit board, or an electrolytic
cap developing problems. Oh, check any connectors
on wires between the deflection yoke and the circuit board
for bad contacts. Unplug then reconnecting it may clear some
corrosion that might be causing problems.
