Hello there,

I have a parking sensor that I am modifying to be a proximity sensor on a power wheelchair. Currently the sensor is attached to a light system with a speaker. This portion has the circuit board in it. The when the sensor detects objects at certain distances it will light up (green, yellow, red) and sound an alarm (varies by frequency depending on the distance- correlates with the green, yellow, red light). The problem is that this system works perfectly for signaling when the wheelchair is backing up and is too close to something (red) but when at a safe distance (off or green) it also beeps. I am wanting to know if the circuit board can be modified to not include the sounds for green (possibly yellow) distances. I am attaching photos of the system and circuit board

Gate the audio (buzzer) signal using an inverted signal from the red light. Whenever the red light is off the audio should be muted.

The answer is yes it can be modified.
If you wish to modify it by simply adding a piece of wire or rerouting existing conductors or wire or cutting a Trace than the answer is no. Respectfully if you understand the before mentioned gated solution then that would be the simplest best way.

It's already off as far as I can make out.

Possibly, by disconnecting the current buzzer feed and re-directing from the red LED only.
Some circuit knowledge would be required.

Difficult to know for sure with the board in your hands ( not here).
The main ic is likely to be some type of microcontroller with built in program of who knows what so no chance of mod there. (not worth the bother at least)
In that instance would be much easier to start from scratch with an Arduino clone board and an ultrasonic Tx/Rx pair.
Again, some circuit and programming knowledge required.

Curious what range of distance are you trying to measure ?

Regards, Dana.

Maybe it's possible to modify. But without any circuit diagram or PCB layout, it's more likely to make mistakes.
