Is there any good PC diagnostic software for troubleshooting potential
hardware/software conflicts? I've only heard of bug doctor. Thanks. Mark.

Not clear what you're trying to do.
msinfo32 will tell you if you have interrupt conflicts.
As a practical matter, address and DMA conflicts are likely to mess
things up so bad that the system won't run.

The best software is provided by your computer manufacturer
for free on their web site. In fact, this is a benchmark for
minimally acceptable manufacturers. If he does not provide
those comprehensive diagnostics, then suspect the worst.

If you don't have a responsible computer manufacturer, then
you must download and construct you own diagnostics by
downloading diagnostics from component manufacturers and other
third party sources.

Memtest does a good job of finding memory chip hardware failures
http://www.memtest.org/ and all the major hard drive manufacturers provide
free diagnostic software for their own respective products. ie:
http://www.seagate.com/support/index.html or
http://support.wdc.com/download/ these mostly run independently from
windows by booting from a floppy or CD otherwise you just have to rely on
experience to tell if a problem is software or hardware related.

Hope this is helpful.

Your diagnostic software should execute regardless of the
Operating System. That is the purpose of a diagnostic. First
verify hardware. Then when the hardware integrity is
established, only then move on to software. Diagnostics are
for breaking the problem into sections, and then analyzing
each section. Any diagnostic software dependent on the OS
simply fails to break the problem down into section - to
simplify the analysis. It should make no difference what the
OS is IF the diagnostic software is to be useful.

Useful diagnostics don't need Windows to run.
