A couple of years ago I recall I had a program on my PC that calculated voltages and currents in a circuit you could put together on the PC. it was a very basic one, ie Series and Parallel circuits etc etc, can anyone recall what this program may have been called, or indeed advise me on one that will do the same job

There are many spice programs. I use 5spice and LTspice. The free version of 5spice is limited in size. Quite complicated circuits can be simulated in LTspice.

LTspice seems to be the most popular on the forum. You should chose one and learn how to use it.

I first used ECA, a commercial DOS program. I would not wish this on anyone but it was very powerful.

You find lots of useful resources for LTSPICE on the internet. Wikipedia lists some of them, many others can be found by Googling.
Or ask here.
