PCG-984L Sony Viao Laptop

hello,

I was wondering if any of you guys have come across this issue before.
I have this sony viao laptop modem pcg-984l that simply will not turn
on at all. no lights anywhere. I have checked the voltage output of
the pwoer supply of the unit, and it reads correctly at 19volts. I
have also opened the notebook and checked the voltage reading on the
power jack, and it reads 19volts as well. I have resoldered the jack
just to make sure.

heres the funny thing. After putting the laptop back togethere, it did
turnon several times.. but then, unexpectedly it wont turn on no more.

Not sure what else to check. Any ideas? thank you in advance!

Any ideas?
Bad battery. Most modern laptops will exhibit symptoms of being
totally dead if the 'smart' battery is in fact bad. I would start with
a new or known good battery.

Does it have to have a battery in order to turn itself on while
connected to the wall jack?

When you say the AC plug was replaced, do you mean you substituted a new
power supply? If so, is the polarity of the new one correct? Is the
current capability of the new one same or higher as original. If the
polarity is wrong you can cause damage. If the current is not enough, it
wont boot up or charge properly. Exactly what did you change prior to
the problem?

The power supply /cord is a single unit. What I meant to say, is that
i replaced the ac plug that mounts on the motherboard.

After doing so, I was able to boot up the notebook a few times.. but
after a while it refuses to turn on at all.

This laptop is a few years old, and the problem started a few months
ago.. by wiggling the ac cord ( pushing it in, or moving it around )
sometimes I would get the notebook to power up. So, I thought that
the problem probably lies with the ac plug inside the unit, so the
next step I took was to replace it.. however, the same issue
persists..
