OK, I know this board is for far more experienced techies than myself,
so if I should go somewhere else, please point me to the right
place...
I have a Phillips 27PS55 TV which was purchased a year and a half ago.
Currently, when the TV is powered on, the picture is all distorted and
flashes all different hues, then the screen flashes a redish color
then the screen turns off (but not the TV), and the high pitch noise
TVs make stops. I have to then turn the power off.
The person who first experienced this problem said the first time it
happened, he either saw or smells smoke.
I took the back off of the TV and could not see anything visibly
burnted. After I put it back together, I powered the TV on and it
worked for about 20 minutes, then did it again.
I have some knowledge of repair, soldering, etc.. but not much as far
as TVs go. I do have soldering gear and a digital multimeter as far as
tools go, and there's a Radio Shack nearby. If anyone is willing to
give me some pointers as to what this particular problem could be,
that would be great. I am looking to fix this myself.. the TV was $200
new so I don't know that sending it out to get repaired is worth the
money. It's gotta be out of warranty by now.
I found the Sci.Electronics.Repair FAQ but wasn't sure what to look
for.
