hello,

Does anyone of a good online reference that explains and has the
equations for PLL bandwidth, damping factor, loop filter natural
frequency, settling time and other such parameters important to PLL
design. I found several references but none are to my liking so far.

-Thx
Frank

All the ones you have mentioned are not specific to PLLs. They are
generic to any feedback system. So, look up "feedback control theory",
or something similar.

did you check the motorola app notes for an-535 and an-1207? aside from
that check what kevin said. a google of "Nyquist Stability" returned a
nice article. something like EE214 handout X and #17. X is Nyquist
stability and #17 is feedback theory.

See "PhaseLockedLoopAnalysis.pdf" on the S.E.D/Schematic page of my
website.

This analysis dates to around 1966-68 and is with an *analog* phase
detector.

I remeber having to completely analyse a PLL as part of the first-year
electronics course as a physics student.
We had a little "electronica practicum" book which explained the PLL with
lots of details.

I tried looking for it, but cannot find it anymore (should be somewhere in
the box labeled: 12 year old stuff), but maybe you can find a second year
physics student at "TU Delft, the Netherlands" somewhere on some mailing
list, and ask him/her to scan it for you, they probably still use it.
