Hi, I am a new hobbyist. Im trying to get my head around the numbers and values of components.
The only numbers I have for my LED s are:RED
65mcd 2.1Vf

Ifmax=15mA
What do these numbers mean?

Also, I ve googled "reading a datasheet" but have not come across quite what Im looking for. Does any one have any recomendations?

65mcd = 65 millicandella, is the light output.
2.1Vf is the forward voltage. The voltage drop across the LED when at operating current.
Ifmax = 15mA is the max forward current.

So, the operating characterisctis of this LED are the it will draw 15ma when the voltage across it is 2.1V and will put out 65mcd of light.

To read datasheets you are going to have to have a lot of basic electronic knowledge. There are many books and tutorials available. Where to start depends on what you already know and what your plans are.

To learn more about LEDs try this stick thread:

Hi bazzel,

mcd stand for micro candela, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candela
2.1Vf The V stand for Volts and the f for forward. ist's the used voltage

Ifmax I is the electric current used, here 15mA = 15 milli amperes

So it's give the light brightness under defined conditions.
