Hi there

I am thinking of building my own DIY power bank, so that I can power WS2812 B LED Light strip with a Dig to go WLED controller.
The options I have are purchasing a retail made power bank for £100-120.00 quid or building my own.

Specs
I would like it to be between
-35000ma – 50000ma capacity.
-USB Type C Power delivery @ 5v 3.3 amps or 10 amps etc.
- Be rechargable via USB type C or solar panel.

What components would I need.

Battery BMS board
Solar charge controller

This is what I am trying to accomplish as per the attached article.

Depends how long you want it to run...............
BTW..... 35000ma and 50000ma is not a capacity, it is current.

20,000mAhr battery banks are only £30 (UK) - max 20W i.e. 5V @4A output which should be more than enough - buy more than one if you have a problem with insufficient capacity.

Building one poses far more issues than just cost (you couldn't build one like that cheaper than buying it) - safety issues spring to mind.

At 60mA per LED and 12 LEDs per metre that's a total of 60 LEDs and 3.6A (or about 18W). Running for 8 hours requires 144watt-hours (assuming 100% efficiency) or 160Watt-hours to be safe.

The power bank I linked to above will run your LEDs for about 4 hours - but that's on the assumption that all your LEDs will be 'white' and full brightness i.e. worst case. For single colours you can triple that run-time and modulating colours would make it somewhere inbetween - who knows?

Either way for £30 you can't go wrong, will have a warranty and the security of a properly manufactured item rather than rolling your own. Buy two.
