Hi.
I am working on a project that uses Phase angle control. Reverse phase angle control to be exact.
This works by switching on power at a zero crossing point and waiting for a period of time between 0-10mS before switching off the power.
This is run from the mains 240v AC.
This i understand and works as expected. The 240v is isolated from the controller via a photovoltaic coupler.

Now what i would like to do is add in some power monitoring circuitry.
I have the circuit designed that i want to use to measure the voltage and current but im not sure how to impliment them exactly.

The voltage and current will be interrupted based on where the phase angle is triggered, So i wont be able to read a full cycle. I can only take a reading when the power is on?

Does anyone have any experience or ideas how this would usually be done?

There are interface units out in the market that should give you the readings.
Ct and voltage transducers.

If you cant find a chip that does it all, then the solution, roughly speaking, is to measure the voltage and current rapidly throughout a cycle calculating the energy used (which can be negative at times for many loads) and to sum this over time.
