Alright so I'm trying to simply turn on cooling fans from an older Mac g5, which are all 4 pin. I've rearranged the wiring every which way with the 12v and the 5v, and nothing.... Only to have two of them zap then smell...... I'd like to not blow up these fans, so can someone please guide me on what to? I know finding and posting diagrams would be quite a task, but those would be heavily appreciated. Thanks.

Can you provide pictures of the fan, close up on the label, and of the connector?

Fans are pretty hard to blow up unless you are throwing a TON of power at it, so something doesnt add up here

I'm having to resort to an iPad for all of this so uploading images is quite a pain but its model is EFB0812HHE if that rings a bell or a nything..... I'm googling the part myself right now.

Ahhh... I forgot to state that the fan has all black colored wires... Apple does designate its pins by number on the pcb board though, so like I know which pin is pin 1, which pin is pin 2 , so on and so forth...

it would be the outer most pins, try one way and then the other

to throttle it you should be able to just change the voltage a little lower to make it go slower, and it should be able to handle a little more than 12V so that will make it go faster
