Hi I'm repairing a PS4 Controller and I'm just having trouble repairing the left analogue stick. I have removed the old stick and soldered in a new one however I think I've done some damage to a couple of the soldering points. The contacts appear to be touching and I believe this is causing a problem moving left when using the stick. I keep trying to clean up the solder but no matter what I do the problem persists I can't seem to separate the connection again. I'm just not sure how to sort this out it's a little bit beyond my expertise. I will include a picture of the board showing exactly what I mean but I would be grateful for any suggestions on this.

Thanks guys

Buy some flux paste and some good quality solder wick.
Plaster the flux on like there's no tomorrow and remove excess solder with solder wick and a good iron.

BTW...good luck with anything to do wih a PS board....... never ever made to be worked on.

It’s probably lead free solder.
Use 60/40 leaded solder. It will mix and melt the lead free. Use flux as suggested too.
What iron are you using?. Don’t keep the iron on the joint, be quick or you’ll damage the solder pads.

is that white plastic two pin connector on the middle right of photo a battery connector?.
It’s melted too. Possibly shorted or no connection. Sort that short out and it might turn on. You have to be very careful and check what you’re doing!

The plastic is melted a bit where I have accidentally leaned on it with the iron. It's just the plastic connector that's melted though so I don't see why it would cause issue. Are you suggesting I replace the battery connector?

If it isn’t shorted or the connections are fine to the PCB, no need to replace it. Other than the battery side no longer fits.
I would suggest buying some IPA, flux, leaded solder or chip quik, decent solder wick and a solder sucker of some description.
Then thoroughly clean the board with IPA and carefully look for any damage.

How do I know if it's shorted ? Solder points seem to be okay upon inspection and battery still fits in.

Okay so I tried it with a cable and it turns on. The direction is now pulling constantly to the left so I took the analogue stick out but it's still pulling to the left.

Those solder pads (circles) shouldn’t have any continuity between them. I can see one or two that appears shorted. And one that the solder pad has gone. Use your multimeter and check for continuity between each solder pad.

Yes but how do I stop the continuity ? The original issue was the two at the top seemed to be touching but I don't know how to stop it.

You have to remove the short.
It looks like you’ve scratched hell out of the board!.
You may have to cut the short and solder some jumper wires in its place.
I think your best bet is to watch several YouTube videos on repairing damaged solder pads and using jumper wires. You might have half a chance of repairing it. Hindsight is great. But perhaps a little homework watching videos might have avoided this situation.

I have successfully repaired 3 others it's just this one has gone wrong. What exactly do you mean when you say cut the short ? Also if the pad has no trace how am I supposed to use a jump wire ?

You have to remove solder mask further down the trace and solder a jumper wire to that.
Watch some videos. It’s easier to watch than explain.

There are tiny holes (vias). These go from one layer to another. You’ll have to use your multimeter to check where it’s connected. Or use a working controller to check against and compare.
Again, watch lots of videos.

There are no videos anywhere on soldering to vias. All I have seen is someone using a wire wrap around a pin that has no trace.
