pyramid PS52KX charging a car battery?

Hi all,

I have a pyramid pyramind PS52KX 52 amp power supply, the other day my alternator went out in my diesel truck (1990 diesel) iam trying to hook the power supply to the vehicles battery to keep headlights running (i use generator to power the power supply)

..the power supply doesnt like being hooked to the car battery. any ideas why? thanks
