I'm trying to set something up so that when there is a sound signal on
a certain wire a switch is activated. Is this possible at all? What
would I need to do it?

When you say "sound signal"...what is it you mean. Do you mean you would
like an audio signal to turn on a light or just a noise...A little more info
please....Ross

Its actually an audio signal...I suppose that your "audio signal to
turn on a light" is closest to what I'm trying to do. I'm working on
some audio equipment that automatically transmits an audio signal via
radio signal if there is an audio signal to submit - since you can't
simultaneously send/receive radio at the same time on once freq., I
need to have it only transmit when theres something to transmit (Its a
2-way radio setup...basically it receives when theres nothing to send)

Thanks.

<snip quoted message incorrectly placed at bottom>
Search on "voice activated microphone".
Some radio equipment does this automagically.
This may be a more appropriate topic for one of the radio newsgroups.
There may be a microphone you can buy that will plug into your radio
and do what you want.

Yes, this is called VOX operation, or Voice Operated Relay. Depending on
what kind of radio you are using, there are many commercially made units
that plug into the microphone jack. If you are looking to build a circuit,
it should be fairly easy to find one on the internet or in the Amateur Radio
Handbook by the ARRL. Give those a shot.
Brian.
