Hi, I'm not very fluent in circuits or electronics, so forgive for sounding like a moron. On my piano keyboard, I had a series of dead keys (all of the E's and Bb's notes in the bass and mid register went out.) This suggested to be a circuit connection problem.
Long story short, I opened it up and tried to fix it. There are 3 boards for the pianos notes: one for high, mid, and low. The high and low connect to the mid board, and the mid board connects to the motherboard. I removed the ribbon cable connecting from high to mid, and the same for the low to mid. I did this to swap the cables with each other, hoping that I would be able to see one of these wires as the culprit.
Unfortunately, I ended up bending the wires at the end. Plus, the wires are starting to unwind. This makes it very difficult to put them back in because the clamp part of the connection (hopefully I'm saying this right) is soldered onto the board. The wires are 17 pin ribbon, so it's a lot to line up into the clamp to put them back in. It turned out they weren't the culprit anyway, because the mid section alone still produces the same dead notes, so I'm thinking it's the main connector from the mid board to the motherboard.
But anyway, my question is what should I do about the ribbon cables? I've noticed that sites only sell 16 or 18 pin, but I need 17. Should I just get 18 pin ribbon wire, and strip one off? I have questions about the ribbon cable that connects from the mid board to the motherboard, but I want to solve the other ribbon cables first. I hope I explained everything right, and again, sorry for sounding like an amateur if this is obvious stuff. Any help would be much appreciated, and I can post pictures to clarify.
