RCA TV - Whites have yellow tint after spontaneous power cycle

I have an 32" RCA TV (F3267SB CTC187CL3) . It's one of the ones that
had the tuner problem but that's not the issue now. Last night while
watching it seemed to turn itself off, then back on instantly. There
may have been an audible pop but it happened so fast that I can't be
sure it was really a pop or just the volume cutting out and back on.
The picture returned immediately, with the only sure sign it went off
at all was that the on screen channel display came on. Since then
whites have had yellow, maybe slightly green, tint to them. Some
whites seem more affected than others. While watching hockey the ice
seemed pretty white but the players with black jerseys had a hazy
trail of yellow tinted ice following them.

It's at least 10 years old and it's probably time to spring for a
fancy new HD LCD set but it's Xmas time and funds are a bit tight.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be and whether it's worth
repairing?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a degaussing coil unfortunately.
The on/off cycles you are referring to, how long or short should the
on and offs be?

It takes about a half hour for the degaussing thermistor to cool off and
trigger again. I doubt this is your problem but it's worth trying.

It's been on and off quiet a few times since it happened, including
over night twice. It's really not super bad, but annoying enough to
bother me.

He can hit the thermistor with some freeze mist :) I don't think the
problem is Gauss as the shutdown may have been a result of some
malfunction maybe even inside the CRT.

The yellow smearing is indicative of either problems in the video drive-bias
circuits or the crt is finally giving up.

Thanks everyone. I was pretty sure it was more than something simple,
or at least simple enough for me to fix, but figured I'd get some
input before springing for a new TV. The TV is over 10 years old.
We just picked up a Samsung 46" LCD. :)

One last question, is this set worth taking it somewhere to have it
looked at, or should I just put it out for the trash?

If it were mine I would recycle it. Having spent time working on them for
a living I surely wouldn't pay to have it looked at nor would I bother
tossing it on my bench here at home. I recently had the same thing happen
to my bedroom 20" RCA Tru Flat TV/DVD combo TV. Well not the same problem
as you but the tuner failed. I gave it to my 15 yr old son for his room
since all he ever did with his 19" TV was watch DVD movies. I took his 19"
TV and gave it to Goodwill. I bought myself an early Christmas present, a
32" widescreen HDTV for my bedroom :)

I took your advise and put it out for the trash. This guys tuner had
failed ages ago but I got around it by setting the channel to 00 and
using s-video and RCA inputs. With the messed up tuner and yellow
issue and the fact it was 10+ years old it was time to retire it. I
just hate throwing anything out that MIGHT be useful. :)

Thanks for all the advice everyone.
