Outside there is a big lightning storm. Should I risk the brief0
moments of a closed liquid circuit between me and the plumbing system
by using the restroom? [I need to know soon.]

If it's that much of a concern, you should go in a container, and empty it
out after the storm has passed. It is possible (though unlikely) that you
will get hit while you go.

If you're worried about getting electrocuted by lightning
while urinating, what in hell are you doing on the internet?

(i.e. you're about 10^9 times more likely to lose a modem
than get hit by lightning while urinating. Unless you're
out urinating on the golf course or something.)

Good Luck!

Squeeze it off in short non-connecting spurts. If you need a demo,
forget it.

Put it on a website, and charge people $14.95 to see it.
You only need a handful of perverts to make yourself a tidy
little sum!

Cheers!

See my suggestion. They used sell handheld toilets (with a funnel for women :)
that could be used while traveling. I don't know if they still make these
anymore. :>

Yeah they do, used in hospitals and small private planes for those *long* trips :).

"I enjoyed this thread quite a bit.
I probably shouldn't post a "serious" followup,
but I don't want this thread to fry (OOPS die :) just yet.

The trap in a toilet has water in the part you can see, but I'm sure
everyone realizes there is an air space beyond that. That combined
with
the ceramic insulation of the toilet should protect fairly well.
It might be more of a problem if the storm zapped a rat in the sewer
and
made a teenage mutant ninja rat, which came up the drain and did
something
nasty :)"

That air space could be coated with slimy scum that has some degree
exceeding zero of being hygroscopic. The humidity in that air space is
probably usually between 99 and 100 percent. I would not bet my life that
this air space does not have some conductive wet film around it or
bypassing it.

If I was standing on a plastic bucket or a milk crate or something
like that and peeing, I would not be worried unless I was touching or
close to touching something else (besides some truly reliable insulator).
