Really new noob

Hey guys
I am extremly new to electronics and have been having an issue figuring out some leds. I bought some led rated to have a forward voltage of 3.2-3.6 however I currently have three in parallel on 5v power source they allread 3Vf and I have 3 stings of 3 in parallel on a 9V they all read 2.7Vf. Can forward voltage change or am I not understanding this at all. Any help is appreciated I love this stuff but as a bio/chem guy im a little lost
