Hi all. I am looking for some good reading on calculating how to recharge batteries.

I suppose I am looking for:
* How to calculate input / how many amp/watts/etc.
* How to decide when to cutoff so as not to overcharge
* What kind of housing to use for certain batteries

The batteries I have in mind to test with are 12v & 6v rechargeable.

Not sure where to start.

Thanks

this depends on a few things.the most important is type of battery. SLA batteries is what I assume you will use as these are the most common 12volt batteries.
then you have to lookat their ah rating. I have a 7ah 12volt SLA battery.
then look at your charger I use a simple 1amp battery charger.

now take alll of that into consideration and also remember that you should never go below 50% on an SLA.

so my 7ah battery charged at 1amp per hour would take 7hours to charge, but as it never gets below 70%(I like being cautious) it actually takes about 2.1 hours. the way I check it is I let it charge for a few hours then I check its voltag, I findabout 13.1 is close enough to full for me. however there are smart chargers out there that will calculate this all for you and cut the charge of when the battery is full
