message continued .The 60 watt bulb mentioned by you must be of 110 volt .In India it is difficult to get 110 volt bulbs. I do not know how critical the bulb resistance is . To get same resistance of200 ohms , I can use 4 bulbs of 60 v ....... Uppala

I believe that if you use a 220V incandescant type it will work also, but just come to a red glow on 110 input instead of its normal brilliant brightness on 110.

I did not see your reply till yesterday as I was all along looking at page 1 only. Today, I tried the lamp test with a 40 watt lamp, and found the lamp glowing dim and going off in seconds . On my second or third attempt ,I even saw the led lighting up. On checking ,I found 60 volts steadily dropping at a slow rate at the bigger condenser. I did not continue for long as I did not use suitable probes and I had to hold two flexible wires by hand and try to make contact with unsteady hands of a 80 plus aged . I will try a longer test by tomorrow to build up voltage , unless it needs a bulb of much higher wattage . What next , Thanks ..Uppala on May2,2017
After another couple of seconds the voltage has gone upto 104 DC . Now , I am certain with testing for a minute or more , It should go upto 170 plus.

Dear 73's de Edd,
In view of my above findings .can I now connect up an equivalent fuse without further problems or is a further check necessary ? I have with me a 2R9 resistance fuse with me . This is circular ,pc mountable and looks similar to a resettable fuse . Can this substitute the bell radial tag fuse ,

Not the scope of this thread but those chargers go for about $25 USD. Found them on ebay. This could be your last resort if you give up on repair.

My reply got deleted . However I am retyping after 20 minutes
Attention"73's de Edd . My earlier testing was incomplete as I could not check the second smaller 250 volt capacitor . Today , I could check this capacitor and find it is not building up any voltage beyond 2 to 6 volt DC. Also the bigger one was able to build up upto 160 volts only. These tests are done after taking off lamp fuse leads as I could not handle dmm leads and fuse leads at the same time . Let me know if the capacitor plus any other parts need change . Another factor I noticed is that led lights up every time I connect lamp across fuse terminals , but goes off immediately...suppala
