It is time to replace the battery in an Ademco Vista-20SE. What brand
and specifications should I look for in a replacement battery? Any
recommendations of where to by them? What is a fair price in the US
for them? Thanks!

Depending on how many "power" devices you have on your
Vista 20SE, I would recommend a 7 or 8 amp hour 12 volt
battery. Any alarm company will have them or go to Home Depot,
Lowe's or Radio Shack. Cost about $15 - $25 retail.

If you have allot of keypads, motion sensor, smoke detectors, etc,
you may need more than one.

my 4a 12v battery lasts more than 1 week, with 3 Optex 70' beams, 1
motion detector, and 1 6128 keypad. If you have a ton of beams and
motions, glass breaks, smokes, etc, then at least a 7a is neccassary.

Personal experience last weekend..
Napco 9600 - 4 keypads - 2 Zone extenders - 15 smokes - 7 glass and 2 each
7AH batteries.. The battery that backs up the panel & several smokes
crashed in 3 hours and 55 minutes..

I wouldn't use a 4 ah battery to power an electric toothbrush.

7 minimum, let ADT and P1 cut that corner.

I was going by what I have, and what i said is how long it lasts. Over
a week, with what I have, 3 optex 70' beams, 1 6128 keypad, 1 Ademco
997 motion, ademco vista 10 control. Our power goes off alot, when
tested, I had to use my transformer for other jobs, so thats why I
left it off so long until I bought a new one, several times, and it
always lasts over a week.

Im not lying, it does what I said it does.

Thanks to everyone for their reply!

I have another related question. I was looking at the manual for the
Ademco Vista-20SE. If my understanding is correct, it is possible to
connect up to four batteries to this unit, each carrying 12 volts? If
this is true, how can you connect four 12 volt batteries without
frying the Vista-20SE? I mean, wouldn't 4 batteries times 12 volts be
48 volts? I am sure there is something I'm missing here. Some special
way to connect them? Thanks!

connect them in parallel
this mean all the red or + together and all the black or - together

that way the voltage stay the same but the amperage is added

Cheaper to get 1-7Ah battery than 2-4Ah battery. Also if you can connect
up to 4 batteries, you can get up to 28hrs (7 x 4 = 28) of operation at 1
Amp draw with the 7Ah battery. Don't know why anyone would need that much
standby power unless the power goes out there for months at a time. Most
of the time, there is not that many devices connected to a system to draw
that much power. If there were, you'll be putting in a seperate power
supply. Also depending on the brand name of the battery, it may need to be
replaced in 2 years, nothing lasts forever, except for maybe paying taxes.
I've been to places that needed the battery replaced in 6 months, but I
think it was just a bad batch of batteries that was shipped with the panel.

Be careful! None of the Lowe's or Home Depot stores in my area have
security batteries: What you could be referring to are their
batteries for lawn mowers, etc. These are not "sealed" and if used
in an alarm system, the gas (sulfuric acid) would destroy the alarm
control in a few weeks. Get a battery designed for alarm systems.

Also, to the gentlemen that indicated his battery carried his system
for 1 week . . BULL! totally impossible!! Your might get 3 hours if
the battery were new, and fully charged . . .

Sir: before posting such garbage to a group of security
professionals, you should either check your facts, or stop posting
such crap on this group. No alarm system battery on the market will
last 1 week!! If your battery is new, and fully charged, you might
get 2 or maybe 3 hours, but no more. Recheck your facts, and then
offer us all an appology . . .

Not at all, they are required to drive the panel a minimum of 4 hours
however I've seen them go for over a day with a fairly basic configuration
