You can use this resistor color calculator to help you identify standard 4 band resistor values. The first 3 colors are used to indicate the resistance (in ohms) and the final band shows the resistor tolerance. Most resistors have 4 bands:
  • The first band is the first digit of the resistance.
  • The second band is the the second digit of the resistance.
  • The third band indicates the number of zeros (the multiplier).
  • The fourth band is used to shows the tolerance of the resistor (as a percentage).

The Omega symbol (Ω) is used as the SI unit of electrical resistance and large vaules are often written in shorthand using K (for kilo, 1000) and M (for mega, 1000000). For example:
  • 560Ω = 560 ohms
  • 56KΩ = 56000 ohms = 56 kilohms
  • 56MΩ = 56000000 ohms = 56 megohms
