I'm trying to find what the unmarked green resistor at R1 should be. R2 on the left side is 51ohm but that obviously doesn't mean R1 is.

I'm iffy about trying to repair the burnt trace with wire but the friend that it belongs to insists that I try. I would also like to confirm that the 2μ7 k on orange capacitor means 2.7μf as it also needs replaced. He believes that a mouse urinated on the board and caused the short that took it out.

I'm no technician of any kind, but apparently since I can solder and play around with LED's my friend thinks I can fix it. Soldering is easy, finding whats needs replaced is easier said then done, especially when you have no training of any kind.

Hi there
welcome to the forums :)

have you actually tried to measure it with a multi-meter in the resistance range ?

lift one end and try, altho the resistor has got hot, it may not have failed

cheers
Dave

Pretty sure it's toast, no continuity. I'll unsolder one leg and test again when I get my new multimeter in a day or two. Hopefully every function works properly on this one, I had to send the first one back. It wouldn't read DC voltage and capacitance never zeroed out but seemed to read ok. My $5 Menards special that it was suppose to replace stopped reading ohms in the 100's and can't read capacitance.

Now that I think about it I'm probably sol unless someone that has a stove with the same board reads this thread and is kind enough to take it out and test.

Incase anyone is interested I found a list of model number for all stoves that use this board. The list is so long I will use the spoiler tag help keep the thread uncluttered. The board I'm dealing with is 9758080 Rev. A.

I did find a refurb for $65 so he might go for that.
But until then check your stove, then check the list to help me, help a friend.

It seems obvious, but because so many manufacturers use this board, did you try to Google a schematic for this board part number?
If a schematic is out there, you can eliminate a lot of guess-work.

Hello,

In many revisions of this board I see R1 and R2 as identical. I am going to say your best bet is to go with a 51R. Those look like some beefy resistors.

I am sure that this boards is identical. At some point they moved to a different resistor material without the band indication. See picture below. Not sure if you can make out the resistors bands.

This one seems to be in the same realm, but you can clearly see the resistor value,

I did search for a schematic with no luck.

Thanks for the pictures. As always I overlook the simplest solutions.

Pick one tells me R1 and R2 are the same but the bands look like brown or red, gray, green or black, which is way off going by my 51 and pic two's 47. I'll lift a leg and retest R2 when my new multimeter gets here tomorrow.

After digging around and comparing sizes I would guess its about a 2-2.25 watt. Mine measured about 12mm x 4mm.

Well not quite. It isn't an order of magnitude off if it was brown grey black which is 18 Ohms. Plus the date code on the first picture is 2002 so there were probably many revisions of this board after this as parts became cheaper. I have a feeling with something this massively produced that there was a range of resistance that would satisfy the constraints. The reoccurring theme however between all of the pictures is that R1 and R2 are identical. I would not be surprised if you measure R1 around 51Ohms since you pointed out before R2 has 51R printed on it. The resistors used were probably whatever was cheapest during that revision of the board during that time of the year with some set of constraints to be honest.

Thanks for the info. Both are unmarked, R1 is toast, no continuity. R2 measured 51ohms but that was without lifting a leg, which I would probably never have thought of if davenn hadn't mentioned it in the first reply. The board I'm working on has Rev. A on the sticker.

The replacement meter seems to work ok so far. I removed and retested every component on the burnt trace and only the unmarked resistor is bad. Even the 2.7uf cap tested ok once removed from the board.

Now I'm just sitting here debating on ordering a pair of 47ohm 2w that I found on ebay, using a pair of 33ohm 3w than I pulled from some junk or, digging around more to find or buy the original 51ohm 2w.

I'm also debating on what to repair the burnt trace with. Stranded copper or should I try to find a solid strand close to the volume of the trace?

I would go with whatever R2 Measures at on the resistor setting with a leg lifted since with little information I can only assume that R1 and R2 are identical from looking at a few pictures. To mount the components I would use solid core since once you set it, it won't be moving around, but using stranded shouldn't hurt. If you have any scrap PC's or power supplies that wire would probably suffice, power supply wire is a bit beefy.

Like you I figured better safe then sorry and ordered some 51ohm 2w flameproofs. He's in no rush anyway since it only stops him from using the oven.
