Resistor on Ground or Power side of LED

Learning Arduino. I've seen some schematics with a resistor between power source and LED and others with the resistor on the ground side. I thought it was the former but am confused by the following 2 schematics.30Proj.jpg

Doesn't matter. You could place the resistor between two LEDs in a series if you wanted to. Typically I put the resistor on the cathode side.

that scematic show both sides as ground no wander you are confused but you got an answer for that amazing. the diode or led must be connected in the forward direction to work. Forward means the positive power should go to the anode then it is true it does not matter where the limiting resistor is placed. before or after as long as it limit the current below the device dissipation.
