It's the large cities that need a transportation system like this most
and they, oddly enough, have the population density to support it. The
buses require drivers where this PRT system does not. They figure this,
and other factors, would make their system cheaper than a bus system.

I agree that it may not happen in our lifetimes but something like it
will have to happen eventually. Current methods of moving people around
in large cities are already breaking down and they simply can not be
expanded fast enough, or cheaply enough, to meet demand. For the same
reason that tall buildings require elevators, modern large cities are
going to require cheap, efficient and responsive mass transit. Without
such a thing, they will become unlivable.
