I was building a Schmitt trigger circuit as depicted by one of my electronics books but unfortunately I found my op-amp burning. I am worried about the voltages that um supplying my op-amp(15V and -15) with.

Check the op-amps datasheet, check whether you are exceeding any of the stated maximum values. Also you should show your schematic, this would allow a solution to be found.

Welcome to the Electronics Point forums!

Please hand-sketch your op-amp circuit, take a picture of your sketch, and upload it here. Identify all the components by value and identitfy the part number of your op-amp. It helps if you assign IDs to each part, such as R1, R2, C1, etc. Active components (such as op-amps and logic) are usually identified as U1, U2, etc. If you do this, forum members will be more easily able to help you.

Your circuit in post #4, with a TL061, should work fine. Double-check your construction against the pinout in the TL061 data sheet, and make sure you've numbered the pins like this.
