I’m newer to electronics as a forewarning. I’m hoping as a learning project to build a security light. I’ve put together a 5v power supply that bridges from the 120v VCC and tied that to the relay to supply 120v to two lights and can control them with a switch thus far.

To take it to the next step I’m hoping to use a PIR sensor to turn on the lights for a set amount of time and provide a digital led countdown until they turn off. I’m wondering if I can accomplish this with one 555 timer and one controller for then countdown clock. Alternatively, do I control all of it with one IC?

I know PIR sensors have internal cooldowns, but what if I don’t want the cycle to be interrupted and the countdown started again?

Hoping someone would help me think through how to accomplish the logic of the project I’m learning from.

Have a look at the kind of timer module used in this thread. These combine a trigger input (from the PIR), a timer with or without display and a relay to control the light.
