Never mind, I found them.

Jameco is where I've found the best deals on ribbon cable connectors. I know
you already found some, but thought this information might be useful.

I would like to know if anyone knows of a db9 connector such as:

http://www.logibase.com/db9.GIF

That can be wired up suing a simple crimping assembly such as the one used
here:

http://www.logibase.com/connector.GIF

I know I can find the db9 that requires welding the pins to the wire, but I
have to make several of them and I don't feel like doing all this welding.

I expect you mean soldering, rather than welding.

I believe both Amphenol and AMP (and perhaps others) make
D-subminature connectors with IDC terminations. (and, contrary to
popular usage, you want a DE9, not a DB9 - the standard density B
shell holds 25 pins.)

Newark Electronics carries (or carried, I'm looking at an old
catalog), AMP HDF-20 series. The 9 pin male plug is AMP 747306-4
(Newark # 87F6615), and the receptacle is 747303-4 (Newark 87F6616)

For Amphenol, you want series 841 Flat Cable IDC Connectors.

I was beginning to think I was The Lone Voice(tm) regarding the D-sub
nomenclature. All the _experts_ (you know, those _A+_ or whatever IT and
network types) seem to call them all DB-xx no matter what size or density.
Likewise with RJ-xx designations for modular connectors. Brings back
nightmares of 1980s era _experts_ calling all DB-25s 'RS232 _STANDARD_'.
Blecch.
