Can I use 1 charger to charge several SLA 7 Ahr batteries at once (sorta parallel) with each (+) or (-) using a diode to stop leeching?
( 500 ma output supply on a 24 hr timer set to power up 30 minutes per day, to just keeep the batteries from self discharging)
I have a finite number of these and hate to see them died while out of rotation.

That's called 'split diode charging' and is a 'standard technique'. Just ensure the diodes are suitably rated for the charging current and that the charger can compensate for the 0.5-0.8V voltage drop the diode introduces i.e. adjust the charger output slightly higher if possible.

Thanks, the P/S is an HP printer SMPS 15dc out A 580ma with a 1n4001 it shows 13.8v output. If i charge 4 in parallel the PS should survive?

I suggest using "ideal" diodes. A 2-component circuit readily available as modules on ebay.

What is the purpose of diodes on a battery charger?

A split-charge diode is an electronic device used to enable simultaneous charging of multiple batteries from one power source. The device prevents current from flowing from one battery to another while enabling the batteries to be continuously connected.
