Slowing Speed of Air Fan

I would like to slow the speed of a typical AC fan. The slow speed of
a typical 3 or 4-speed fan is not slow enough. Can i simply insert a
appropriately rated resitor in series between the power source and the
motor? Or do i need to re-wind the motors coils?

A dimmer switch might work....though it might overheat the motor a bit if
you slow it down too much.....

I guess you could introduce another small choke into the cct for the final
low speed. Or for that matter in series with it all for a general speed
reduction. Once you get down to low speeds it's pretty much trial and
error. With ceiling fans I have had sucess with fitting longer blades
(increased load) to get a better setting at the low speeds.
