i know that the remote control of one tv will not work on the other tv
model.
but i just dont know what it makes not to work on other devices
There's no standardization in codes between manufacturers - the IR
beam is modulated with a digital signal to tell the device what to do.
A particular number of pulses, length of pulse, will vary from one
manufacturer to the next, for the same function.
"Universal" replacements are programmed with lots of different
manufacturer codes and it is up to the consumer to find the right one
(following the instructions)
"Learning" controls, require a working remote to program the
replacement.
Makes a lot of sense IMO to get a universal and use it instead of the
one supplied with the product - since the universal seldom provides
all the functions of the original. The universal will do the common
stuff with no problem but may not access the more esoteric functions
(like "menu," locking out channels, adjusting hue or color, etc.).
