Smd ics and through hole ics

Can an smd Ic be replaced with a through-hole Ic
am working on a certain inverter which uses sg3524n smd Ic, but the ic is not available in our town in smd form, will the through-hole Ic work in place of surface mount Ic?!!!

Yes of course it can - it's often awkward to make the physical connections but there's no other reason why you can't use one.

Certain exception may be made at high frequencies whereby extended lead lengths (from DIP to SOIC pads) may introduce issues but the SMPS chip you isn't likely to be prone to that.

It's often easier to use an SMD part to replace a through-hole part than the reverse.

You may be in for some interesting and fiddly work.
