Somewhere to learn

Im trying to make a goodbye gift for my friend. he loves playing the
guitar so i figured whats better then a mini amp? so i did a bit of
research and found the site aaroncake.net and found a plan:

http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/amp.htm

i think the site gives me all the info i need, my only problem is that
i dont know how to read the diagram. where can i learn the basic
knoledge needed to be able to read the diagram? im also interested in
another project on the site.
http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/fuzz.htm
but it looks far more complicated but still cannot read the diagram.
if anyone could point me in the right direction i would be very
greatful.

Reading a circuit diagram means understanding how the circuit works. Do you
mean that you wish to be able to convert the circuit to a component layout.
If so have a look at

Hope that helps.

If you can't read schematics, you're probably better off getting a store-bought
kit with a circuit board, where you can solder the components into the board
and assemble the parts into a precut enclosure. Velleman makes a guitar preamp
with headphone that will fill the bill. It's the K4102, it's not too
expensive, and is available from a number of sources. It comes with everything
you'll need to look great except solder, an iron and a few small hand tools.

Not only that, but having the existing circuit with documentation will give you
a head start in understanding electronics. The first thing I ever did in
electronics was a radio kit, and I learned quite a bit from it. Also, I got a
big boost in confidence and gumption when it worked. A preamp is much easier
to understand than a radio.

Good luck
Chris
