Sony 200ES Focus/Brightness Problem

Ok I am fairly experienced in TV repair (mostly older) but new to
monitor repair. I am seeing a strange problem with my 200ES which is
described below.

- The screen warps in areas of darkness on a bright screen

- Keeping the brightness low helps

- When the brightness is low and the screen is mostly dark the picture
is extremely fuzzy, as though there are two superimposed pictures, one
not warped and one warped.

- Pushing the brightness up removes that but the picture is still
warped

- Every so often there is an arcing in the monitor

- At highest resolution the monitor makes a loud, high pitched noise

I have the Sony service manual for this monitor, but not a lot of cash
so I want to repair this rather than purchase a new monitor <g>. Any
guidance that can be given is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Check for high ESR caps in the power supply, scans, and secondary supply
from the flyback output section.

I think the last problem, the squeal, is separate somewhat from the
rest. You think?

Possibly, really though the first thing you need to check is the arcing, get
that taken care of and it might shed some light on the other problems.
Squeel can be an arc loading down the flyback, bad capacitors could cause
the HV to rise or lose regulation.
