Sony VCR SLV-920HF Tape getting pulled out

I keep having this problem even after i cleaned the heads. The
cassette will not play or even rewind. I put a cassette in and it
starts for a couple seconds and then stops. Even if i try to FF or RW
it will not move. When i eject the cassette some of the tape has been
pulled out of the case. Only about 2-3 inches of the tape is pulled
out. It never breaks the tape or makes in unuseable. This used to
happen every once in a while but now it happens every time.

The transport mechanism is stalling on load, and failing to completely
de-spool on abort.

They had a lot of bad capstan motors on these, and the half-load arm would
stick from bad lubrication. There was a replacement bearing that could be
used to repair the cap motor if the coils hadn't been totally scraped
through, but that part is now discontinued. The whole capstan motor may
still be available.

The type of grease you use is not very critical..... the problem is
that the old grease congealed and now the arm is frozen or stiff.
Once you get the arm to move freely, even an oil lubricant will
work. A very light grease would be good but again this is not
critical.... just get the arm to move freely.
Hopefully the arm is not bent or gear teeth are not stripped.
Be certain that you get the height exactly right once the arm is
reinstalled. Measure carefully before removing it.
