I wanted an LTspice file for a FET, I found it at the site below, but it
shows up as a mod. file.
Does that make any sense?

The extension does not really matter. It is a text file with the standard
spice subcircuit definition.....

..SUBCKT ZVN4306A 3 4 5
*NODES: DRAIN GATE SOURCE
M1 3 2 5 5 MOD1
RG 4 2 108
RL 3 5 6E6
C1 2 5 224.5E-12
C2 3 2 10.5E-12
D1 5 3 DIODE1
*
..MODEL MOD1 NMOS VTO=2.634 RS=0.2762 RD=0.0 IS=1E-15 KP=9.77
+CBD=405E-12 PB=1 LAMBDA=0
..MODEL DIODE1 D IS=6.19E-13 N=1.0043 RS=0.065
..ENDS ZVN4306A

Place an nmos symbol CTRL right click on it. Change the prefix to X and the
value to ZVN4306A.

Add a spice directive .include c:\wherethefileis\ZVN4306A.mod

But to join the big boys, change it to .lib or .sub ;-)

Thus spake Timothy Thompson who would have all spice file extensions named
..tim

In fact, given the extreme posibility of his imminent death .tim should
become the accepted extension for all spice text files.

Obviously there will be a transition between .jim and .tim during the
changeover period.

Yo, If you posted your pictures right and you're not getting burnt (or even
if you are) are you getting a coffin with a 'power bulge' on it?

Sno-o-o-ort! How did you get "tim" from "Jim"... too much liquid
refreshment ?:)

I will not have a coffin, I WILL be "burnt"... and scattered upon this
lovely hillside where I presently live.

My late son's ashes were surreptitiously scattered at PIR per his
wishes ;-)

I worked backwards. Jim sounds like a cool dude name for someone who had
parents who thought Timothy was a cool dude name for a person who wasn't
going to be like James Dean........ Who was probably called Timothy Dean.

Last time my dad died the front end involved a coffin. He took a journey
through the curtains and got burnt.

Best I know is he got rendered for cat food and the coffin went to the next
dead person.........

Burble burble.

Ah, yes! "Rebel Without a Cause". Love that movie. I have "The
Complete James Dean Collection" on DVD.

In Mesa, AZ, they caught some funeral director doing just that :-(

Except he had this fascination with certain male parts and cut them
off and put them in jars of Formaldehyde ;-)

Of course Mesa, AZ, is the town where they caught the fireman "doing"
a neighbor's sheep ;-)

I think I meant to say, whilst the moment of clarity remains, you did your
son right.

Mom doesn't let me play with the big boys yet, but when I can,
if I change it to lib. is it installed into the program so I can click on
"pick new mosfet" and find the part I got the file of? (ZVN4306A)
If not, is it possible to do that?
Mike
PS. I just picked up the LTspice users manual from Office Max, I had them
print and bind the pdf. file. A $26.00 manual for a free program. hmmm.
I find it much easier to read in book form. And I can make notes.

I bought an ibico punch and binder many years ago so I can create my
own manuals for design reviews, etc.

[snip]

I don't know how LTspice handles libraries.

PSpice can do it two ways....

Add the library name in "Library and Include Files", and it'll be
permanently available in all schematics.

But since I have at least 66 bipolar, CMOS, and BiCMOS process
libraries I just add a .LIB statement onto the second page of the
schematic to avoid device naming confusions.
