Step down 12v to 6v

I have a 12v battery pack that I need to step down to 6v to run my project. Is there a simple way of doing this?

This is an application for a voltage regulator.

Simple and cheap (but wasting half the power) is a linear regulator.

More complex, but far more efficient is a switchmode regulator.

What current is required? If it's under an amp or so, I would use something like this.

That would be perfect but I am pressed for time and have to have it running in 2 days. It should be 1000mA max
