stepper motor driver

Hi, I'd like to preface this post by saying I know alot about software
and little about electronics. Please speak slowly and use small words.

I salvaged a stepper motor for a project I'm working on (it says Epson
Precision(H.K.) LTD. 8310 770173) and I would like to be able to
control this motor via my parallel port. All I know is that it has 6
wires, 2 are the same color, and I probably need some sort of hardware
between the parallel port and the motor.

I've been to http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~ih/doc/stepper/ but it's a little
over my head. Any suggestions for where I should start on this project?

Build a kit:

Did you see the following URL at that site?

http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~ih/doc/stepper/control2/3axis/

It has a specific 3-axis controller layout (driven from parallel port),
with a detailed parts list, etc. You should be able to use just one
axis' portion.

There is also compatible free software to do CAD and then run a 3-axis
CNC machine from it, through a parallel port, at:

http://www.dancad3d.com/

Good luck.
