What might be considered "simple" to one may be "uphill" for another so it largely depends on how you are at learning new stuff.
It might be noted that rolling your own is pretty much gone out the window these days given the speed,low cost and excellent quality of commercially produced pcb.
One uses their software, designs the layout, uploads the result and in most cases the boards arrive in a week or so.
