If thinking of doing more in the future, it may be wise to get familiar with one of the larger (Free) popular packages such as KiCad.
Goes from Schematic capture to board Gerber files required by the board producer.
They also have a Forum for help.

There are plenty of free ones.
What might be considered "simple" to one may be "uphill" for another so it largely depends on how you are at learning new stuff.

It might be noted that rolling your own is pretty much gone out the window these days given the speed, low cost and excellent quality of commercially produced pcb.
One uses their software, designs the layout, uploads the result and in most cases the boards arrive in a week or so.
One of many........https://jlcpcb.com

Other than that, simplist I can imagine would be buy some veroboards.

You can use KiCad or Eagle. They're both really good and easy to use.
