Surface Mount parts kit

I have been away from elections a long time. I need to get the basic
surface mount pop corn resistors, capacitors, diodes, LEDs, FETs,
transistors, etc for some simple digital work.

Long ago there were places that had inexpensive assortments of parts
in the back of magazines. The magazines are gone and so or the dealers
like Poly Pac's. More recently I found things on Japp's Chip-dir
mailing list and sci.electronics and they seem to have fallen in to
disrepair too.

I expect that this is still a good place to ask where to find things
like this.

Thanks
Gordon

For good reason. They've been out of business for a LONG time.

That was me getting 3050 surface mount resistors. I think it's a good
price, maybe even worth going up against the UK to US exchange rate if you
get lucky. The last lot of these went for £16, I got one for £6, and some
went for £4 or less.

There're still a number of mail/web-order outfits that took over
Poly Junk's market niche.

Jameco
Digikey
Mouser
B&D Enterprises
Circuit Specialists a.k.a. Webtronics
JDR Microdevices (?)

For surface mount parts and grab bags go to Dan's Small parts...
http://www.danssmallpartsandkits.net/
He is mail order only, no phone or email orders. I know that is the
old way but that is how he works...
Great resource.

Go to Ebay and search for seller "nfceramics". He also has an ebay
store as http://stores.ebay.com/NightFire-Electronic-Kits.
Seems to be what you are looking for.

Hi Gordon -

If you just want an assortment of surface mount devcies like resistors and
capacitors, check DigiKey. They carry kits covering ranges of parts. I've
gotten the 0805 parts in both capacitors and resistors and they are pretty
well done. Just go to their site and do a search on "resistor kits" or
"capacitor kits".

A couple of crutial items for starting surface mount projects... Make sure
you have a well-lit area with a magnifying lens. Use very fine solder
(~0.015" or so). Get a good pair of tweezers. Get some good solder wick
(No Clean or Easy Braid in as small a diameter as you can find).

Good luck. It's a lot of fun!

That is http://www.vakits.com/ which has been recommended several
times in this thread. They are located in Ocala, Florida. 352-237-4348

I can recommend this seller. He stocks a large assortment of assortments
of surface mount kits. Even zero ohm resistors. When I first saw that I
thought it must have been a typo but someone at work explained how they
are used.
