Hi,
Does anyone know the interpretation of an error code
"TEST 05 FAIL A2"
on startup of a 2465?

Thanks in advance

Test 05 Fail x2 means "negative level not negative enough".

This is probably due to failure of SMT tantalum electrolytic caps leaking
electrolyte over the board and damaging the voltage reference circuits.

You can download the service manual from:
ftp://bama.sbc.edu/downloads/tek/2465service/

From my 2465A service manual:
Test 05: ADD Main Board.
Error code X2: Negative level not negative enough.

"X" indicates which bit of the option select register is set to turn on
the option called out by "OD" (see options manual for description of
options select register).
This bit is zero for the basic instrument.

Those models also had problems with bad 0.1uf decoupling caps, both axial-
lead glass and the plastic DIP type. I've found many on the D-A sample&hold
circuits.

The 2465 series didn't begin using SMD components until the 2465B model, and
then only on the microprocessor board.(which also incorporated the formerly
separate readout board.)

Ooops... missed that it wasn't a B model, so of course there are no SMT
devices.
