Tektronix 7613

Just got one, not working. There is a leaky transistor on the
regulator board, and I would like to have it running. Are there any
common problems with these ?

Another transistor in another plugin socket with the same number
chacks out as an NPN, I figure I can find a suitable replacemennt.
Thing is, that was done and it still didn't work.

This is obviously a regulator driver, and maybe the voltage went too
high and shorted out whatever that particular source feeds.

Should I persue fixing this old beast. It is fun, has mesh based trace
memory, uses technology I don't quite understand doing that, and is
quite old.

This thing has a good unburnt CRT, and my 422 is down, I should fix
this I think, what say you ?

Please refrain from ageism and age-related value judgments; old to you
may be yesterday to someone else.

The 7000 series is highly maintainable and for the most part well-
engineered. Repair it (get the manuals) and consider yourself amongst
the fortunate to use a quality instrument from this series.

the threaded studs for those TO-3 xstrs,soldered to the regulator PCB
develop cracked solder joints,and the IC socket on the same board caused
problems;it was removed and the package soldered in,in later
production.Some matal film resistors in the reference dividers would open.
there are decoupling caps on the scopes interface board that go bad,cause
PS problems.
a major problem in the 7000 series was "gold-dot" connectors on the ends of
the ribbon cables.They were a source of many intermittents.
We used to replace all the ribbon cables when a scope had them,the bad
connectors were mixed in with good ones.you can tell the bad ones by their
pale color compared to the gold plated connectors.

By now some of the big filter caps on the cap-rectifier board will be
drying up or near failure.

all the PS supplies reference to the -50V supply.You need a PS schematic.

It still makes a good 100Mhz scope,even without the storage.
Get the 7A26 and 7B53A plug-ins for it.they were the best ones for that
scope.

Get a TEK service manual for the scope.
