Temperature/pressure transducers

Hi

I'm planning a project with an Arduino (I'm a total novice) to measure temp/pressure. Temp in two ranges, 0-60¢/200-400¢ (anticipate 2 transducers required) and ambient pressure from 10 to 20 psi. Crude increments are OK, 1 degree &1/2psi fine to start. It's a learning project so accuracy & calibration are not critical (although the more accurate, the better).

Can anyone (please) recommend where I can find these (2nd hand is fine) at a sensible price.

I'm in UK but not shy of overseas suppliers.

As always, any advice or guidance is much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to Electronics Point.

You could start by Googling temperature sensor uk and pressure sensor uk and having a look at what's available.

If you want advice on specific sensors and how they could be interfaced to an Arduino, post links to the data sheets for the sensors and we will be able to advise you.

Gosh, that was quicker than expected, thanks for responding.

Search engines tend to bring back extremely high accuracy or bulk/wholesale items (at huge cost) & I was hoping there may be hobbyist options available.

If and when I find transducers I'm sure I'll have interface or configuration questions (& hopefully some progress reports if there is any interest), but in the meantime finding affordable components remains my priority.

Thanks again.

Well, there are plenty of ICs that sense temperature. Some have a linear output that can be fed into an ADC, and some are accessed digitally. I've used the Dallas/Maxim DS1822 before; it uses the "one-wire" protocol and can measure from -55 to +125 degrees Celsius and costs a few dollars. But I guess you're looking for something more than that.

Digikey are a great site for getting an idea of what's available out there, and what manufacturers to look at. They have several pages for temperature transducers, and one for pressure transducers. They're probably good places to start.

I couldn't have asked for a better set of pointers there, so your response is much appreciated, and thanks for taking the time to 'spoon feed me' the links!

The DS1822 definitely sounds suitable for the ambient range and I'll be tacking that (or equivalent) down for sure. I'm off to immerse myself in the digikey pages now (how sad is that) and will add a note as and when I make some progress.

Thanks again

Hal
