Hello,

I'm trying to understand the difference between a buffer checksum and a file checksum in the context of programming a PAL.

In the status screen of using a Chipmax2 with Maxloader software, I see a buffer checksum value displayed along with a file checksum value displayed, and they are different values.

Is this because perhaps the memory buffer has additional information than the actual JEDEC file?

The buffer checksum can be computed over a selected range of data whereas the file checksum is calculated over the contents of the data file. The latter does not necessarily have to include data for the complete device.
More info can be found in the relevant sections e.g. here.
