A number of parts are rated at certain thermal impedance with a note, something along the lines of
Does this mean that in order to achieve the stated thermal impedance (63C/W in this case) an 1 by 1 inches (exposed? free of any other parts?) copper square needs to be centered around the part, or more likely only around the biggest pad of the part ? Or something else ?
Also, how far apart would one place 4 of such parts in order to achieve the 63C/W ?
like in this datasheet for instance - https://www.tme.eu/Document/8ae9fea82a7cb44d4c881a980e95a2fe/siss05dn.pdfsurface mounted on 1" x 1" FR4 board
