I'm looking for some plans to convert a toaster oven to a reflow oven. I have been looking over the internet but can't find what seems to me to be a rock solid build. What I would like to find is the plans, PCB design files, schematics, and the code to control the setup. I would prefer to use AVR chips but PIC will work too.

I may be asking for a lot here so please forgive me...

Thanks.

bigone5500......Did you try a google search for "DIY reflow oven" ? There are several different options and at least one open source Arduino project.....I don't have a link, but a friend of mine recently ordered a "kit" (pretty sure off ebay)....had all of the various components listed in the open source project + detailed step-by-step instructions ..... My buddy managed to get it all up and running and he is pretty much clueless abut electronics (so why did he need a reflow oven? LOL, long story, but he needed to populate ~2500 SMD PCBs that I designed for him for a product he is MFG/Selling....) Anyway, it takes a bit of "fiddling" to get the heat even and figure out the the best timing cycle, but with a bit of experimenting you should be up and running in pretty short order....MAKE CERTAIN to pay attention to the oven specifications for the one you decide on....I don't remember exactly what it was, but there was some specification about the oven that narrowed the choices considerably....

Oh...one more thing....he found Lead/Tin paste worked much better....so if you aren't shipping to California or otherwise don't have to be RoHs compliant then I would suggest you start with Lead/Tin Solder.....My buddy has also mentioned that the Stainless Steel masks are MUCH easier to use than plastic or DIY....they aren't expensive if you get them done with your boards (I think he told me the Stainless Steel masks cost him ~$10/pcb...)

Good Luck!

I have an el-cheapo toaster that has two quartz elements. I was hoping to be able to use it. I had planned to get some ceramic insulation from work (IsoFrax) and line the sides and top with it.

I did see where one place was working on a kit but did not have an estimated date of completion. I really would rather build it myself though. I enjoy doing that type of thing.

Thanks.

I think this is what you are looking for:

ControLeo ....
Here is an article abut the guys who designed/built it: http://makezine.com/2015/04/15/diy-open-source-reflow-oven/
Here is the kit on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ControLeo2-Reflow-Oven-Controller-open-source-ControLeo-/301193511798
Here is the detailed step-by-step http://whizoo.com/
and here is a youtube demonstrating it

You can write your own firmware, source your own parts or order what you need...it is OPEN SOURCE there are at least two other OPEN SOURCE, detailed guides on how to convert a toast oven to a reflow soldering oven listed on the first page of a google search for "DIY Reflow Oven".... I am confused what it is that you can't find?

Good Luck!

I looked at my oven today to see what the specs are. It is the Rival TO-709 and is 1000 watts.

Maybe I need to look into getting a higher wattage oven???
