Touch lamp comes by itself....

Hi all

I am posting this message, as I have a touch lamp that comes on by
itself and I can not figure out why.

This lamp was purchased at a local discount store here in town, so
after deciding that I was not going crazy I took it back to the store
and exchanged it for another one. That did not do the trick.

As exchanging the lamp did not work I even went as far as to change
out the AC outlet it was plugged into. That also did not work.

I have plugged this lamp into other outlets in the house and it does
not do this at all.

I was hoping that someone out there could help me with this problem. I
bought this lamp for its looks and I would prefer not to have to
replace it.

Thanks in advance

I would look for an inductive load on the same circuit. Refrigerator maybe
??

I would guess that since the lamp only operates incorrectly in this one
outlet, and works correctly in your other outlets, this outlet must be
mis-wired. They sell outlet testers in hardware stores that check for
incorrect outlet wiring. You would then have to correctly wire the bad
outlet.

I had similiar problem with the touch lamp as well, it used to come on
automatically whenever the water pump kicks in. Since the water pump is
in the basement directly below the outlet the lamp's plugged in and the
line runs in parallel to the breaker, I tried a different outlet and
solved the problem.

I'd check and see if there's anything (vaccum cleaner, fan,
refrigerator, etc) before blaming for miswired outlet.

Hi all once again

Just wondering if there is a way to turn my touch lamp into a regular
lamp with a simple on/off switch?

You should be able to yank or bypass the electronics and replace the bulb
holder with one that has a switch on it.
